Roger Spacey

Not my normal topic . . . but Roger Spacey was very important to a good friend of mine and is unfortunately no longer with us.

Photos in Northside Sun

Check out this Wedding Announcement from the Northside Sun, which prominently features two of my photos sans-credit.  I assume this has to do with their business model, since they have a couple of local studios as photographers/advertisers . . . perhaps if I took out a full page ad of a family in denim and black with an image of a gilded gold frame around it they would give me photo credit . . . OK, that was harsh . . . there is plenty of room in the Jackson, MS photo market for half a dozen Grillis or Kees style studios and those guys deliver to their demographic the product desired.

Ides Gallery

I’ve uploaded a gallery of the photos in the Ides of the South exhibit to Light and Glass.  The folder contains one image that isn’t in the Starkville version of the show, and three images that were not in the Jackson version.  I ran out of space in Starkville and had to cut “Jones Drugs” from the show, and I included two of my photos of MSU and a new shot “Yellow Bull.”  All of the images in the show are 18″x18″ giclee prints, matted and framed in 24″x24″ frames.  The prints are signed and numbered editions of 10 (all of the images in the show are also available as 10″x10″ editions of 30).  Also, I included my artist statement in the gallery description . . . and I included the titles for once (normally I just leave the camera assigned file name out of laziness).

Help Raise Money for the Humane Society

. . . by voting for my picture of an adorable, yet unfortunately named, weiner dog!  Go to the Humane Society of Memphis’s Calendar Contest and vote for #275. (Sorry, but you have to scroll through the page, no way to directly link.)

Shea Arender, Elvis Tribute Artist

This afternoon I made my way out to a relatively new subdivision outside of Jackson to photograph Shea Arender in his home studio.  Shea is an Elvis tribute artist (not to be confused with an impersonator), who will be performing at Hal & Mal’s on September 20.  Tickets are available here.  And you can view all of the images here.

Read my Feeds

Google claims that nine of you are using google reader to read my feeds . . . oh well. But for those nine of you; wow! Not really, but I did improve the feeds a little, and by popular request (>2) I have posted links to the different categories below, along with a special surprise. Continue reading ‘Read my Feeds’

Weegee Article

weegee

There is a nice article over at the NYTimes about Weegee (the article was published the end of last month). Contains a few interesting posthumous facts I had never heard before.

Upgrades

Everything is now up to date with the latest stable release of wordpress (2.5.1), gallery2 (2.2.5), wpg2 (2.3.0.6), the latest version of the K2 theme and the newest embedded gallery theme with lightbox support.

I am writing this all mainly for future reference, but there are a couple of interesting new features. Aside from some pretty massive back-end changes to wordpress, the best new feature of the upgraded blog is the lightbox support. I might add this feature to LightandGlass.net after a little more testing. To see the lightbox feature, click on the picture of the inappropriately named wiener dog, “Rebel”

There is also now slightly better support for other media formats, which will probably matter to Hud more than me, but you never know. When Album Covers Attack
