A wonderful npr interview with architectural photographer, Julius Shulman. He is best known for the image above which he discussed in depth in the interview. Shulman currently has an exhibit on display at Getty Museum through January. The Getty site has several of Shulman’s images available online.

Glenn Feron has a little web site promoting his retouching services. It should be mandatory viewing for all teenage girls, especially those with any body image issues. Some of the examples are almost hard to believe, such as the before and after shown above. Even though it is not my thing, I have to admit the man has talent with photoshop.

1I have discussed the legality of photographing in public, what situations necessitate a model release, and other related subjects with many of my coworkers. Unfortunately, it seems things may change depending on the outcome of this case. Photographer Philip-Lorca diCorcia is being sued by a man he photographed as part of his “Heads” series. He took the photo on the street without the man’s permission. He then proceeded to sell several prints for 20k a piece, and publish the image in a book that sold many copies as well. Currently this is all perfectly legal (despite what many people will tell you).
Npr had a story on post 9/11 rights of photographers. Unfortunately I can’t find a transcript, just a link to the audio file.
Bert P. Krages II also has some information on his site about photographer’s rights, and he is the author of the heavily downloaded Photographer’s Bust Card.

A father and son team of photographers, the father became “chief of the photo department of the newspaper Revolucion”, and the son was a personal photographer for Fidel Castro. Currently their work is on display at the Cuban Art Space in New York.
