Well the season is upon us. Jayrah’s birthday was yesterday, halloween. We hung out with Mr. and Mrs. Super Pickle, Gorjus, and some new friends. We also did a little celebrating this past weekend, with entertainment provided by the non-costumed over 20 trick or treaters, and an uber-intoxicated D-train. In honor of Jayrah getting older than me I have a birthday themed picture.

Totally unrelated to the subject of the post, but if anyone has an opinion about the largest size of the images I make availabe I would love to hear it. These two images have a maximum dimension of 900 x 900, but normally I only post them at 500 x 500. Lately I have been thinking I am just being paranoid about people printing my stuff out, and desktop size would actually be perfectly safe.
I like the picture of Fred…it makes me chuckle to see you call her your “ward.” On the pumpkin, I think I would like it more if the black of the background/backdrop more closely matched the black of the shadows. But I love the comp and texture and subject. AND I like that its in color.
As far as the print size, I think you would be safer with smaller pics, but I love getting to see the detail like that. I say you should keep them 500×500, but I aint complaining about getting to see the larger more detailed pic.
Not to get too tedious about this, but the background is blue and the shadows are neutral to orange, maybe I should post a Macbeth color checker chart. Here you go, bottom row should all look neutral.
Thanks for the comments otherwise, and I think I will probably stick to the smaller resoloutions for file size if nothing else.
I like how “birthday themed” means “hallowween-esque.” Usually I think of ballons, stupid clowns, or Bennigan’s flair when I think of birthdays. Though I guess my experience ought to have Christmas trees.
As for the picture itself. I really like it, except that it ought to be bigger and of a orange, and all the shadows should be reversed to be not shadows while all the bright spots should become dark, it should be lined up on the left not the right, and should maybe have something sparkly in it. Otherwise I think it is great. And instead of a color chart could there be some sort of continuous spectrum?
