Ever watch CSI or some other crime drama where the computer forensic guy does some magical enhancement on a almost unrecognizable section of an image to pull out hidden details? If you happen to know me, you might be aware that I hate that shit. As far as I know the best thing going for enhancing images right now is done through the use of fractals, and even then you can’t make up information; it just smooths out transitions between the pieces of information you do have.
So the image above was shot on 160 ISO film (relatively slow film with a small grain structure) using a Hasselblad with Zeiss optics (about as sharp as you can get). When I zoom in on the left eye, this is what you get:

If you click on the image and look at the full size version, you can barely make out the reflection of me wearing a white shirt with my head bent down over my camera. The quality of the original image is massively higher than that of a security camera, yet that is all the detail that can be obtained from the image. If only I had that magical CSI forensic computer I could just start shooting with a disposable camera.
Below is another portrait from the same shoot the above image came from (both are in the portrait gallery).

damn wah, that’s freakin’ brilliant. nice work.
good job.
wow, this is really cool.
do i have to pay you to print some of your cool pictures? i’m doing my computer room in all black and whites, some that i have done, some that i find interesting. i really like the eye where you can see, well, you. once again, fabulous work.

Sounds like this guys feels the same way. We should go watch Blade Runner because not only do they enhance the photo in a physically impossible way (rotating the image to get more of the reflection!! ACTUALLY CHANGING THE IMAGE AFTER THE FACT!!) but it makes a funny clicking sound when they do it…and you, having the propensity to make clicky sounds, should really appreciate that.
Pinky-
Thank you so much for the compliments, but unfortunately these images were shot specifically for the lady pictured within (as opposed to most of my stuff which is just shot for my own personal enjoyment), and therefore I feel a little awkward about selling/giving prints of her. In my defense she was warned I would use her images on my site.
Pick out something else . . . we’ll talk.
doc-
the clicking sound is the special fucking image bullshit magic noise, it’s just not so noticable on csi . . .
loved the comic.
i still have one of the wood block prints that you made. “Lament” is the name of it, one of my favorites.
I hate to hear that about the picture, but i am always respectful of art and the people that it belongs to. Let me know what you are willing to part with. I’m hoping to come to Jackson before too long and maybe we could talk then. Thank you!!!
