There are a couple of things that are making me slow on the uptake this season: 1) my dissertation, 2) le tour, and 3) its JULY!

But, its a good time of year to be interested in big storms, we have 3 tropical storms right now. Bertha is still alive and on her way to…Iceland? The disturbance that hung around Florida all last week and brought us much needed rain managed to pull itself together and become T.S. Cristobel, who is now annoying everyone but the surfers in South and North Carolina. And, Dolly Parton is finally honored with a storm when the disturbance between Cuba and Mexico got upgraded a little more than an hour ago, which looks to hit, maybe, Brownsville.

So, lots to look out for, although, honestly, nothing really threatening the good old U.S. of A. The Carolinas can handle a little tropical storm and crossing the Yucatan will help stop Dolly from getting her hurricane on.

There is a hurricane in the Pacific, a location that I tend to ignore, named Fausto. Now, I don’t know about you but that seems a bad name for a storm. Might as well call it Hurricane Deal-with-the-devil.

I’ll try to keep my ear to the wire, my finger on the the ground but who knows if I will manage it.
