Free Time

Jayrah spent about half a semester in one of her classes discussing free time. As best I can recall, the conclusion was we have no truly free time.

What I previously perceived as my free time has vanished. I was promoted at work, and now work more hours. I also have much less sitting at a desk time (i.e. time to read all the other blogs and news sites I like). On the plus side, there is a seasonal aspect to my work, so I will have more free time at different points during the year.

Blog related: I am working on a wegman story. Hud has already been spreading my wegman story around the sunshine state, so it is time to embellish and make it even more preposterous.

Y’know, I regret the amount of free time that I once felt compelled to use to do things with. Oh for the days when I could just sit around and do nothing but watch videos or read comics that I don’t like or even spend hours and even DAYS creating exact likenesses of my friends on my wrestling video game to watch them beat each other up. Sigh.

I used to have a lot of free time. When you’re single you can do whatever you want with the time that you aren’t at work. That’s the thing that I miss most about college…being able to go and do anything at a moment’s notice. It could be three o’clock in the morning and someone could knock on my door to go do something and I would go. Not so anymore.

Sigh. I think it was the band Cinderella who said it best, “Don’t know what you got ’til its gone.”

Of course they also said, “And who’s to care if I grow my hair to the sky…I’ll take a wish and a prayer cross my fingers cause I always get by”

And who could forget…”I’ve been down ooo, I’ve been down yea Baby baby baby ooo I’m freezin’”

Sorry, I guess I got a little carried away, it bein’ national poetry month and all.

You know I remember, when I got my first car, thinking “now I’ll have more free time” because it wouldn’t take me so long to get places. Yet, suddenly I had less free time.

What class was it that Jayrah was taking?

critical thinking or mysticism, but It makes more sense for it to be critical thinking. Same guy we took the postmodern feminism class from.

True true about the free time. Full time job shrinks it. Marriage and kid shrinks it. Driving places shrinks it. Family getting older shrinks it.

I miss it. I miss it so much. I feel bad that I let myself get so used to free time! I used to depend on it for my sanity!

Now I have no free time, and I am on the border of any number of terrible psychological conditions. What I need is a good old fashioned summer vacation! Those were the days, boy.

Looking forward to the definitive Wegman story.

What a mess you’ve got yourself into. You used to be able to sit by me and listen to This American Life all day (by the way the latest show is good), but now you’ve got promoted and I see you running to and fro taking pictures. There is an equation to be worked up involving cheap rent, signifigant other, career, and chemical dependency that can gage how many hours of free time one has per day. And it is the central puzzle behind DaVinci Code II, The Devil’s Code.
