This past weekend Jerri and I went down to Biloxi to participate in the Ohr Fall Festival. We set up on Friday afternoon, and then sold all day Saturday, and Sunday until five. All in all it was a great time. There were a few oddball comments, such as, “Is this art or photography” and “if it’s that fragile I don’t want it”. Things I wouldn’t say in the fine arts section of a show, or to an artist working in glass, respectively.
In my quest for a Georg Ohr apron (don’t ask why) I decided to try my hand at throwing on a potters wheel for the first time in about a decade. So I signed up for the Ohr museum throwing competition.
I then proceeded to impress everyone who knew me by not coming in last place. Jerri’s favorite part, when I had to throw with a grocery bag over my head.
WOO!! And, I really like that double-tent. Nice shot of Jerri, by the way.
everybody has to be a critic . . . same double tent set-up as we did at Jam, but thank you very much.
Is the bag because you knew you couldn’t beat the guy on the end in the “mustache contest’?
Oh, and I can totally understand the fragile bit. I think some of Jerri’s work is beautiful, but it would not last a week in my house.
The guy on the end didn’t even enter the Ohr mustache contest . . . and everyone had to wear a bag on their head for that part of the competition.
As far as the fragile comment, I should have given more context; the lady picked up one of the “lace” glass bowls and began to tap it against the table as she asked Jerri what it was made of . . . Jerri asked her to be careful since it is made of glass, at which point the lady told her that if it was that fragile she didn’t want it . . .
but I agree, it wouldn’t last a week in your house.
I like the face that is drawn on your bag, its a good likeness.
