Tropical Depression Six

Alright, there is another storm on the way. I say “Hello Belize!”

Now, its not expected to get close to even Honduras until Tuesday so a lot can change between now and then but the possible cone is pretty small even at that distance. A storm is going to hit somewhere, just a question of where. This reminds me of something I saw on tv the other night.

I flip channels…alot. I’ve got mad skills at changing stations. But, I do have a fairly limited range through which I hunt. Its got to do with channels that I actually like to watch. For instance, I almost never ever flip past CMT. Its not just that I don’t really care about watching another episode of Coyote Ugly (a show of the worst possible character I can imagine. Young women line up to be berated, judged by appearance, and ultimately be treated as an object meant only to dance and serve alcohol), I don’t really want to watch A&E, MSNBC (except at specific times of the year), or even TNN. Sorry, Spike (unless of course I have a hankering for either CSI, Star Trek, or James Bond).

A coupe of channels that are regularly on my route, which I usually care nothing about, are CourtTV, the Food Network, Home and Garden, and The Travel Channel; they all reside between Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies (and the Cartoon Network is part of possible the strongest collection on my dial: Cartoon Network, SciFi, FX, Comedy Central, and Movieplex - a free movie channel). CourtTV only ever gets me to pause long enough to see the impending accident of whatever car chase they happen to be showing. The Food Network often gets me to pause, especially when its Good Eats. Home and Garden only rarely ever piques my interest but I usually difest a little as I roll by. But the one that caught my attention most recently was the Travel Channel.

Samantha Brown has got her own show. And, at the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, she’s cute. She was in Latin America, turns out it was Belize. She traveled to some keys off the coast, which looked nice. And the airport to get there was awesomely rustic. But what caused me to stop was the tubing trip she did. Now, I’ve never been one to want to go to South America; I’m not really want you call adventurous when it comes to trying new foods so eating exotic local foods has never been a draw. And, I know its an outdated insular American kind of fear but the place seems way to volatile to me. But I really want to go to Belize now.

She took a trip down Caves Branch River. Its a river that goes in and out of caves along its course; it looks fantastic and gorgeous. So, if you ever happen to make it to Belize look up Caves Branch River and see if you can take a ride.
