Tropical Storm Chantal

I can’t get real excited about Chantal; she is parallel with Massachusetts and heading for  Greenland.

But, there are things to keep in mind. Its the end of July and this is only the third named storm of the season. Don’t let the low numbers deceive you; we had similar numbers in 2004 and thats the year that 3 storms ran across Florida. Sea Surface temperatures are high: in the 90’s for most of the Gulf and Caribbean. I don’t know how deep the warm water goes but any water in the 90’s is fertile water for a storm. Apparently one of the only things stopping rampant hurricane generation is a large area of dry air stretching across the Atlantic.

I  suspect that sometime in the next two weeks a storm will pop up. However, I won’t be here to talk about it. I’m helping a friend move to Maryland; we leave tomorrow.

Be calm.
