This image is from the series Sand Shadows and Shifting Landscapes. It has what I think of as an everyman quality, because I look at it and it is immediately familiar and comfortable. It reminds me of other pieces I have seen before, but I can’t remember exactly which ones.

This is another image from the same series. You can see the original after March 12 at the Mississippi Museum of Art. I am not sure if the first image will be in the show. [Edit: None of the landscape pieces are in the show.] The hand coloring is muted and beautiful, and the texture of the paper makes you want to commit the cardinal gallery sin of touching the piece.
My one time mentor, Marita Gootee, will be one of the dozen or so photographers whose work will be featured in this year’s invitational show, at the Mississippi Museum of Art. I had the privilege of getting an unofficial preview of some of the pieces and I am looking forward to seeing the complete series.
