I am no huge fan of reality-tv. I have a lot of friends who love reality-tv (this sounds like something a racist says). Most of the time the subject matter is not interesting to me, or there is just too much effort required to get to know this massive cast simply to empathize as they are whittled down. I really don’t know why I don’t like it. But if there was ever one reality show (outside of the restaurant one) aimed at me as a demographic, it would be Artstar.
Unfortunately, the idea of watching 8 artists receive harsh critiques on tv sounds a little too much like intro to anything art classes without the benefit of studio time. The makers of the show claim they are not going to make the artists compete in any silly tasks, or cry on camera, but doesn’t this just rule out the segment of possible viewers who normally watch reality tv?
Here is a blog that has dedicated some time to the discussion of Artstar.
