Weather Fun

Basically, I’m just waiting for a storm to stir itself up so that I can have something to write about. But, check this out. Its a link to one of NOAA’s two storm floaters. Usually these things fixate on tropical depressions. When there isn’t one, they point them at areas that they worry might become tropical depressions. I’ve linked to the looped version of the infrared channel, so you will see the last 7 or so hours. These means, that if you look at this a couple of days from now, you won’t get what I am talking about.

But, lets say you look at it right now. You’ll notice that the clouds on the eastern edge of the screen are moving to the west while the clouds on the western edge of the screen are moving to the east. This means, no fun for those in the middle. But a nice image, nonetheless.

Now, if you click on the buttons at the top you can get some nice overlays, most are better when the floater is over the US. But here, check out the “HDW-low” button, this shows you the intensity and direction of the low level winds; a bunch of red arrows should pop up, mostly on the right side of the screen. Then check out the “HDW-high” button, this shows the same info for the high level winds; a bunch of blue arrows should appear, mostly on the left side of the screen. Check out where those arrows overlap with the red arrows. That’s a disturbance zone. That zone is why this floater is looking here.

Weather is fun.
