I am continually astounded by the stereotypes that abound at my workplace. Originally I was amazed that people… seemingly normal people… still held the prejudices that spewed from my coworkers’ mouths. It still seems, at least around here, if you’re not a white male you are either stupid, greedy, incapable, a liberal freak, “not normal,” or any other combination of negatives adjectives you care to string together…. and because of these downfalls we (I, of course, am included since I lack a penis) can do nothing or understand anything as well as they can….
I rarely quote plays/movies, but this one is appropriate…
These are the boys that believe “you either shoot it, stuff it, or marry it.”
So you can imagine my utter delight to listen this morning to a critique of the most recent American Idol….. now, it would be predictable for them to have been talking about a girl on the show and some part of her anatomy, but they were discussing the various choices of songs… (the verdict is that contestants should choose a song that people are familiar with and not some obscure one that only shows off their voice… a “crowd pleaser”)… in addition they concluded that allowing the population to vote was a bad idea, because people simply voted for who they thought looked the best… not who had the most talent….
It’s those little shiny morsels of temporary androgyny that makes me think perhaps one day I may be able to work in the office without the protection of my trusty ipod.
Headphones are addictive. I vote for obscure songs, but I haven’t seen the show.
Is your ipod named Silver? or maybe Trigger? I think contestants should be required to write their own songs, that would learn ‘em.
I’m surprised she hasn’t named it, she has a protective case for it that matches her car
Its name happens to be the same name that the company called its color…..
Carbon.
I think it fits it for a number of reasons….
Jealous of the iPod…also jealous of anyone with XM Radio…I guess I am just in a jealous mood right now.
I saw most of American Idol last night and I must say that the song choices were ANYTHING but obscure…Celine Deon, Phil Collins, Jessica Simpson…
But I guess maybe the demographic we’re talking about may not be the biggest Jessica Simpson fans in the world. Unless, of course, she were naked.
I feel like perhaps “non-obscure” means songs like….
Sweet Home Alabama….
Ok, that’s probably taking it a bit too far….
Wah’s mention of obscure songs yesterday reminded me of when Gorjus used to send out song quotes each day to the old email list…. I always really liked that….
In honor of Wah….
