This is an idea I have been thinking about for a while. I’m not sure how most people are going to react; it seems like the average christian is much more comfortable with a painting depicting Christ, than a photo. Anyway, I attempted to recreate Andrea Mantegna’s “The Lamentation Over the Dead Christ” à la Cindy Sherman style.

I would love to hear criticism and opinions . . .
YO! I love this ALOT!
I think you are onto something..what others are you planning in this series?
i like its historical reference, the varied audience and feelings it will inspire, the conversations it can spark and the look of it is really sweet..its modern in a certain way yet so old and that contrast makes me want to look longer..until i figure out why that is..
cool..want to hear more!
it makes me feel uncomfortable, but i don’t mean that in a bad way. i’m having to view christ in a different manner, and it somewhat makes me think of Lincoln, actually. its that bedframe. it looks to human, makes me think of a dying man taken to a bed to lie and die which makes me think of lincoln. pretty good. I also cant help but study the faces in the photo.
What a great concept. I love it. Looks really good. I love the wounds and the fact that everyone has the same face! Nice. Well done. Are you plaining to do any more?
I think you’ve got something quite seriously good going here!
Hey Wah! The pictures are awesome as usual! Very nice! I recognize the bed!
Good job keep it up!
oh, and uh…has jesus been working out? he’s kinda badass lookin.
I really like the photo, although there are two things that distract me. First, the bedframe. It would be more stark if you were “laid out” on a slab. Mantegna’s piece copies that, with even having the feet hang off the end of the bed, and I think it would add to the starkness of the setting. Second, I think I would find it more striking if there was a sepia wash. I don’t say that in the technical sense, but just that the first painting has a stronger yellow overtone, similar to the paleness, yellowness of death. Although the stark blue cast also has that hue, I think a golden caste would make it so much more life-like as to be disturbing. The blue undertone allows you to distance yourself a bit more.
