The beginnings of another piece with Gorjus. Hopefully, I will have a finished one to post in a few days.
What does it say to you?
Edit: I have really enjoyed the comments so far, but if you haven’t gone to look at Gorjus’s post, along with his “in production” polaroids, you should. I think the text he wrote for it is wonderful, and I am looking forward to getting a closer look at his lettering . . .
To me it says “struggle.” It seems like a struggle for control and or direction or to be the “winner.” And the flag only lends to that.
That’s a great interpretation of it. While initially there was some conceptual talk about there being hand-holding, in the romantic sense, this reminds me more of a complicated aerobatic grip–something one person is doing to another to grab ahold of them.
A lot of it to me is about not letting go.
I’m not seeing struggle (as in ‘to fight against’) but more of a togetherness, a solidarity. I saw it and immediately thought of America but it took me a couple of seconds to actually see the flag. And though I saw the dirty hands as a image of the working man I figure it could be interpreted as a “our hands are dity” statement about our involvement in X.
i agree with hud. it makes me think of the togetherness and strangely happiness (out of the text/context) because it makes me thingk of a baseball team all puttin their ‘hands in’.
