Once upon a time, I was self-conscious about carrying my camera around with me and asking people if I could take their picture. I’m not like that anymore. Now, although I have conquered my fears, I have also developed new ones. My biggest fear the last couple of years is taking my camera with me when I am going to be drinking, or around a lot of people who are going to be drinking. In my mind this fear of preservation seems much more reasonable.
As a result, here you will only find pictures of the day of New Years, and none of the fabulous party at Jaxxie and Jaysus’s house.

Whoa…
The one of gorjus with everyone behind him is a great photo. I love it. I like the isolation via focus and I like the different tones in gorjus’ face. Great. I wish it were bigger. Seems pulled from a Bret Easton Ellis novel…which seems apropos. I would love to see it bigger.
Okay, I like the [first] gorjus picture too and I think it would be fun to see it bigger but he looks crazy. Like Melvin from Office Space crazy. Has the picture been altered any? I mean, his neck looks bigger than his head. Is he turning into a turtle? Sorry, those aren’t the most flattering things to say.
Very nice photos!
Can I just say that you seem to know a lot of freckly people? I know one or two, I suppose, if you exclude my family. I’m starting to wonder why I don’t know more freckly people.
And I think I’m also starting to realize the insane prevalence of airbrushing. Skin is not smooth, Hollywood people!
One more thing–do you have some kind of lightweight medium format you’re sporting around?
I think the abundance of freckles was due to that new frecklator-lens 2000 that you got over the holidays.
I think it is strange that we generally don’t look (or don’t have to look or subconsciously choose not to look) at anyone in this close a detail in our day to day lives.
I am really glad that I don’t have to look at myself with this close a lens daily! What is it that makes us so uncomfortable with fine details? In most art and architecture, fine details set the mark of excellence and beauty. Why is it that when we see these fine details, that set us apart from everyone else in the world, as flaws? The simple answer is that normally theses details are taken away from us on commercial close-up portraits. I think there might be more though.
Would looking this closely everyday at people change our awareness of the world? I, personally, like my blurred view of everyone. It keeps it simple for me to identify everyone.
Good work.
There have been some news stories over the past half-year or so which have speculated about what may happen when HDTV becomes mainstream; apparently (and I would have no way of knowing, as I’ve never watched any HDTV programming) even the beautiful folks on HDTV shows lean toward the Brobdignagian as seen by a Lilliputian, with very few exceptions . . . perhaps real life will seem more lovely.
Oh, I’m also glad to hear that the Frecklator-lens 2000 has finally been released; it was held up for years because of a lens manufacturing problem which lead critics to call it the Melanomator-lens 2000. I hope that they’re on track for the already-delayed Beauty Marker 2003 . . .
I am now officially on a diet. And, I do look a little crazed–v. Office Space is right! I think I was trying to kneel very still.
